Perloo
A Lowcountry rice dish cooked with meat, seafood, or vegetables so the rice absorbs the flavor of the pot.
Historic Specials
Along with our regular menu, we’re bringing historic and regional dishes from across North and South Carolina to the Food Truck as rotating specials.
Some will be familiar. Some may bring back a memory. Others might be something you’ve never had before.
They won’t be available every day. Friends & Neighbors will hear what we’re serving, the story behind it, and when to come try it.
Why we’re doing this
We want to help keep some of the dishes and stories connected to our home at the table.
That doesn’t mean every special is an inherited family recipe. We’re researching food from communities across both Carolinas, testing it in our kitchen, and sharing what we learn.
From the coast and Lowcountry to the Piedmont and mountains, Carolina food was shaped by the people, land, water, work, and traditions of each place.
Specials we’re working on
These dishes will appear as ingredients, seasons, testing, and Food Truck service allow.
How Historic Specials work
We research the dish, test it in our kitchen, and share what we learn when it reaches the Food Truck.
Recipes move, families adapt them, and food histories don’t always agree. When a story is disputed, recipes vary, or we change something for our kitchen, we’ll say so.
Historic Specials will be limited and rotating. Some may return. Others may only appear when the right ingredients are available.
